China and geothermal

A piece from ClickGreen says that China has signed an agreement with Iceland on geothermal energy development.

The Chinese have signed a deal with Iceland to increase co-operation over the development of geothermal energy.

China's Premier Wen Jiabao concluded the agreement last weekend during the first stage of a four-nation European tour.

As a trained geologist, Wen toured the Thingvellir national park, home to popular tourist attractions the Gullfoss falls and the Geysir geyser.

Geothermal energy surely has potential as a sustainable energy source. Maybe the EU should have got there first, but Iceland is so far away isn't it?

Well, we are "in discussion" about it

I'm sure both we and the Chinese were waiting until the economic woes in Iceland

got so bad that they would sell us anything at any price.

Olives should be cheap some time soon, as well.

Sam - I'm not clear where the UK is in its discussions, but as we discuss the Chinese seem to be signing.

Olives are already cheap at Sainsbury's - bought two jars recently. Rioja next I hope.

Chinese are buying everything up at the moment.

Iceland isn't in the EU.

They've got more sense than that, and - importantly - what their people think actually makes a difference.

James - they are, particularly infrastructure.

WY - they do have more sense than that. Maybe they prefer the Chinese to the EU anyway?
